There is a desperate need for professional service providers to consult
with local service users, police, health services, housing departments have all
set up local facilities to try to find and cater for local needs. If users of
services do not help them to come up with the right solutions they cannot be expected
to get it right. Tenant and Residents Associations (TRA’s) are ideal
starter groups as they can get funding, training and support without difficulty.
They can be the foundation for Community Associations, Pensioner Groups,
Transport Groups, Health Forums, and many other sounding boards for local services
and a means of disseminating local information. TRA’s can set up local
facilities such as Toddler Groups, Scouts, Guides, Information Technology Awareness,
Buying Groups, Computer Groups, Neighbourhood Watch Groups, Parenting Groups,
Home Zones and Hobbies Groups. The list goes on. There are many government
initiatives and funding designed to support community projects and there are many
examples of community support, but the money and support will not be given to
communities who are not willing to improve themselves. There are also
many community initiatives set up by local churches, which have no religious bias,
and Tenant and Residents Associations can link in to these facilities.
